What is pdxdnb?

Portland Drum & Bass, or pdxdnb, began as a project that Chris Coda started in April 2004 to promote Portland-area Drum & Bass and Jungle events. The goal was also to create a hub for the local drum & bass / jungle community, so that everyone who loves this music from the punters, to the club-goers, to the DJs, to the producers can come together. It's all about the love really. For people who love it, by people who love it. It's not a crew and it's not exclusive to any one group of people. It's an organic manifestation of the scene and the people who are a part of it.

Who runs pdxdnb?

The site was started by Chris Coda, and he runs it with the assistance of Ryan Organ and The Mecca. Chris manages the site operations, does the design and layout, and writes the code. Ryan posts articles and manages the forums and The Mecca focuses on promotion and events. The three of don't stick to their own areas exclusively though, they work together on all aspects of the site.

But if wasn't for the people of the scene then they wouldn't have anything to do!

Why should I visit this site?

Well, if you're reading this, it means you came to the site for a reason. Maybe you saw a pdxdnb T-shirt at an event, a friend mentioned it to you, or you found us on Google or someone's blog. Whatever brought your attention, fundamentally it's the music. But you should definitely bookmark the site and visit often, because you can always find out what events are coming up each week, listen to mixes from local DJs, get info on local dnb radio shows, and even hang out in the forums if you want.

I'm putting on a drum & bass/jungle event, can I get it listed here?

Definitely. Please contact Chris Coda either via private message in the forums, or on AIM at ctbfourone.

However, everyone is entitled to promoting their own event in the forums, which is highly encouraged.

Is there anything I can do to help?

What would be a huge help are donations towards the web hosting bill!! It costs money to run the site and every little bit counts. If you would like to donate a couple dollars, it would be immensely appreciated! You can donate here.

So, what's going on under the hood? What platform is the site running on?

The 'core' of the site is split into a few components. The news/main page is maintained using MovableType 3.2, the forums are running Invision Power Board, the mixes are streamed using Apple's Darwin Streaming Server, and the rest of this mess is hand-coded XHTML, PHP, JavaScript and CSS. The web server is running Apache on Linux 2.4.26 and is happily maintained by Dreamhost, who are hands-down the best hosting provider on the frickin planet. The site is coded using SubEthaEdit on Mac OS X. The site is best viewed in Firefox or Safari -- but if you have to use Internet Explorer it's okay, we won't hold it against you. :p
